CSA...Is It Here, Or Is It Not

OK, so if I am an expert in fleet safety and DOT compliance, then why don't I have the answers to many questions I've been asked about CSA?  Heck, why can I not even answer my own questions relative to the CSA?

Just when I thought I had it all figured out, according to the standards everyone was expecting to see, it seems that only about 50% of what was supposed to change has actually changed.  It also seems that not only are many law enforcement officers confused, so are some DOT officers...you know...the ones that actually come on sight to conduct that Compliance Review (The Audit).

What ever happened to the new "Intervention" procedure?  I don't know, and niether do they. I asked the officer "Are you guys using the new CSA standards now?"  He said "Yes."  I said "Then why are you here doing an audit?"  He said "I don't know...it's up to headquarters if we do an intervention vs a compliance review."

What ever happened to the "Violation Cap" during a roadside inspection?  I don't know, and niether do they.  I can tell you what I do know.  Much of violations found during roadside inspections conducted by local municipaities, counties, and even state officers are no longer about safety as much as a way for that specific intity to make revenue.  Shame on you intities currently doing that.  Do you actually think that is going to help the economy?  Let me answer for you...NO!

Safety regulations are all about, and ONLY about, making drivers, vehicles, and roadways safer......NOT a way for your town, city, county, or state to make more money.  Shame on you!!!

If this is not intentional, but rather simply a lack of true understanding of the regulations, then you should ensure that every officer is trained in the regulations and the correct interpretations to those regulations.

Oh....and by the way.....Stop making stuff up as you go, Barney Fife!
