A Common Mistake: Linking DOT Drug Screens with Medical Exams

It’s a question posed all the time. “Should a routine DOT drug screen accompany a DOT physical exam?”  The answer is no.

By now most of you have probably heard about CSA 2010, what it is, what the new requirements are, and so on.

Is it something to be concerned about? Yes, most definitely!

     
Texting and driving has cost thousands of lives in recent years. Still, many motorists continue to send and receive text messages while they are driving their vehicles.

The federal government just issued a texting while driving ban to all commercial truck drivers and bus drivers. The fine will be up to $2,750.00.

Recently, I've been getting many calls and emails from concerned motor carriers in several different types of industries regarding little bits of information they have received on the CSA 2010. Much of this information is just not true and these people are allowing themselves to be overly concerned and even stressed out, thinking that they will be required to conduct their business differently than they have ever done before, in order to meet the new requirements of CSA 2010.

Let me be one of the first to bid you a fantastic 4th of July as we begin to celebrate the independence we have won through previous battles.

Now let me offer a warning, as a way to help save the lives of you and your family.  I believe the two main causes for people dying on our roads and highways are driving while fatigued and driving while distracted.  Please do not allow this to happen in your vehicle. But at the same time, please be on the look-out for those around you who are practicing one of these unsafe behaviors.
